Dermaplaning is an in-clinic treatment that exfoliates the skin by getting rid of fine vellus hair, which you most probably know as “peach fuzz” or “peach fluff”. Much like a professional barber would use a cutthroat razor to give the beard area a super close shave, Dermaplaning uses a fine scalpel blade, running it closely over the surface of your entire face.
Wondering why Skin Renewal doesn't offer Dermaplaning?
At Skin Renewal, we’re committed to long-term results and, while we can understand the instant appeal of Dermaplaning, the results are short-lived because the hair that’s shaved off will grow back and may even be more noticeable when it does.
This is why we offer aesthetic exfoliation procedures – microdermabrasion, superficial chemical peels and laser toning. They leave the hair on the skin’s surface intact and unaffected so that we can select the best exfoliation treatment (or combination of treatments) for your unique skin type and skin goals.
Superficial exfoliation, not superficial results.
Like Dermaplaning, depending on your unique skin, there are pros and cons to all superficial exfoliation treatments, which is where our “more than skin deep” knowledge and expertise comes in. We tailor a treatment plan to you, going beyond supposedly quick fixes and trends, to deliver the exfoliation you need with the consistent, visible improvements you want.
Dermaplaning vs. Microdermabrasion
With Dermaplaning, the depth and evenness of the treatment are entirely dependent on the hands the blade is in – leaving room for human error. With microdermabrasion, good treatment depth occurs through carefully selected vacuum settings, so your treatment and results are not wholly dependent on the operator.
Dermaplaning vs. Superficial Chemical Peels
Dermaplaning doesn’t offer any skin tightening benefits, while superficial chemical peels can include skin tightening ingredients like DMAE. And, unlike Dermaplaning, superficial chemical peels can be done on active acne and rosacea.
Dermaplaning vs. Laser Toning
Dermaplaning works solely on the surface of the skin. In contrast, laser toning (with a superficial laser) is a safe, effective, and advanced exfoliating treatment that’s not superficial at all—improving skin tone and texture while helping to treat various skin conditions. These include hyperpigmentation and melasma, chickenpox scars, acne scars, dark spots, sunspots, fine lines, and wrinkles. Laser toning may also remove some “peach fuzz”, but this results from targeting the hair follicle.
