Sebaceous hyperplasia is the most common of all pilosebaceous tumours (i.e. the oil glands attached to our hair follicles). It is a disproportionate enlargement of the sebaceous glands found most commonly on the forehead and cheeks. These areas of hyperplasia (overgrowth) consist of one or more lesions size 2 to 4mm in diameter with papules that most commonly have a yellowish hue.
When many of these lesions appear on the skin, they can be quite unsightly and they tend to be associated with ageing, so many patients would really like to have them removed.
