Although skin tags may vary somewhat in appearance, they are usually smooth or slightly wrinkled and irregular, flesh-coloured or slightly darker than the normal skin colour. Early or beginning skin tags may be as small as a flattened pinpoint-sized bump around the neck. They tend to increase in size the longer they are left untreated. Some skin tags may be as large as a grape.
The appearance of skin tags is not in itself a health concern but there may well be a medical reason behind their appearance. Skin tags develop in both men and women as they grow older and they tend to be more numerous in obese persons as well as in those with type 2 diabetes.
