Carboxytherapy Carboxytherapy for Hair Loss Cryotherapy Surgical Mole RemovalReduced facial fat and skin support cause the cheeks to lose youthful prominence, creating a hollow, sunken appearance. Additionally, the buccal cheek area, just below the cheekbones, can become more indented, further contributing to the aged, gaunt look. In some cases, volume loss around the eyes may enhance the appearance of hollow, dark eye circles, mainly if eye surgery with fat removal has been performed.
Volume loss is one of the most significant contributors to facial ageing. Those with fuller cheeks, such as overweight people, tend to show fewer signs of facial ageing because their cheeks retain more volume and roundness. The hollowing of the mid-face can also impact the temples, eyebrows, and other upper facial areas, leading to an overall sunken and aged appearance.
While surgical procedures can address sagging tissues, they cannot replace lost volume or enhance skin strength and elasticity. As a result, the long-term benefits of surgery for volume loss can be limited. For true rejuvenation, restoring volume is crucial for a youthful appearance.
At Skin Renewal, we offer cutting-edge non-surgical treatments, such as the MD Codes or the Liquid Facelift. This procedure focuses on replacing lost volume using dermal fillers. Unlike fat transfer techniques requiring significant downtime, dermal fillers offer a minimally invasive, highly effective solution for restoring mid-face volume.
Patients who receive dermal fillers for cheek volumisation are often amazed by the results. Restoring the "apple" of the cheeks significantly enhances facial contours and imparts a youthful glow. Fuller cheeks naturally reflect light, giving the skin a healthy, vibrant appearance often associated with youth.
While volumising the cheeks is essential, maintaining the skin's strength, hydration, and elasticity is equally important for achieving a refreshed, rejuvenated look. At Skin Renewal, we recommend monthly maintenance treatments to help preserve the skin's youthful qualities and slow down the visible effects of ageing. These treatments ensure your skin remains healthy and robust, allowing you to age gracefully.
At Skin Renewal, we pride ourselves on offering a doctor-led approach to all our sunken cheek treatments. Our highly skilled medical team conducts a thorough consultation to assess each patient's unique facial structure, ageing concerns, and desired results. During the consultation, we will recommend the most effective treatment plan, often involving a combination of dermal fillers, skin boosters, and other advanced techniques to restore lost volume and rejuvenate the skin.
In many cases, a combination of treatments offers the best results for facial rejuvenation. By addressing multiple layers of the skin and underlying structures, we can achieve more comprehensive and long-lasting outcomes. Combining treatments allows us to volumise the cheeks and enhance skin quality, hydration, and elasticity, providing a complete solution for facial rejuvenation.
Maintaining skin health as you age is crucial for slowing down the signs of ageing. By combining targeted treatments with high-quality skincare products, you can protect the integrity of your skin tissue and enjoy a more youthful appearance for years to come.
Treatments for sunken cheeks are available in Gauteng at the Morningside, Parkhurst, Rosebank, Bedfordview, Fourways, West Rand, Irene, Waterfall, Irene, Lynnwood and Brooklyn clinics, as well as in the Western Cape at Cape Quarter, Claremont, Constantia, Century City, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Willowbridge clinics, and Kwa-Zulu Natal at the Ballito, Durban and Umhlanga clinics.
Sagging cheeks are often caused by ageing, which leads to a loss of collagen, fat, and skin elasticity. Genetics, sun damage, and weight fluctuations can accelerate this process, causing the cheeks to sag and lose volume. Understanding these factors can help you make informed decisions about your skincare routine and treatments.
Sunken cheeks can be made fuller with dermal fillers, which plump up the cheeks by restoring lost volume. Skincare treatments that boost collagen production and regular hydration can also improve skin elasticity and fullness, giving a youthful appearance.
Facial changes typically become most noticeable in your 30s and 40s, as collagen production decreases and fat loss in the mid-face becomes more evident. Significant skin elasticity and volume changes may occur during this period, accelerating the ageing process.
Dermal fillers can restore volume to the face, which provides immediate plumping effects by replenishing lost fat and collagen. A doctor-led approach, such as the treatments offered at Skin Renewal, ensures a personalised plan to rejuvenate and lift sagging skin, restoring a youthful appearance. Regular skin maintenance treatments also contribute to long-term results.

I had 28 threads inserted by Dr Maureen Allem at Skin Renewal. The procedure was quick and completely painless. I was a little nervous beforehand, but as soon as Dr Allem started working I felt completely at ease. Once the local anaesthetic wore off later, I experienced a very slight sensation of discomfort - but nothing worth noting. There was no pain or discomfort from the following day onwards. I bruise very easily, so did experience slight bruising - but I was well prepared for this. I have had a 'before' pic taken, but not an 'after' pic as yet. I would definitely have the treatment again and have already recommended it to many people. It is a very easy and pain-free way to slow down the ageing process and to 'lift' the face.
