What Makes the Vampire Facial (PRP) So Effective?

PRP starts with a simple concept: your blood holds regenerative potential. After a quick blood draw, we process your sample to isolate platelets enriched with growth factors. These are reinjected into targeted areas, triggering collagen production, skin renewal, and tissue regeneration where needed most.

Tailored Techniques

PRP is more than just a treatment—it's a shift toward natural, sustainable skin restoration. With Skin Renewal's comprehensive and medically guided protocols, you benefit from a personalised plan designed to rejuvenate from within. This multi-modality approach offers superior results compared to stand-alone treatments. At Skin Renewal, we pair PRP with:

These strategic combinations create a layered approach to skin rejuvenation.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Preparation Method

Spun at a lower speed without anticoagulants

Spun at higher speeds using anticoagulants

Additives

100% natural – no anticoagulants or chemicals

Contains anticoagulants to prevent clotting

Fibrin Matrix

Forms a fibrin scaffold that slowly releases growth factors

No fibrin matrix – growth factors are released quickly

Growth Factor Release

Slow and sustained release over 7–14 days

Immediate release over a few hours

Cellular Content

Rich in platelets, white blood cells, and stem cells

Primarily platelets, with fewer white blood cells and no fibrin

Effectiveness

Ideal for long-term regeneration and collagen induction

Best for short-term, superficial skin concerns

Volume Restoration

Can add subtle volume due to fibrin structure

Minimal volumising effect

Application Areas

Deeper wrinkles, under-eye hollows, hair restoration, skin texture

Fine lines, pigmentation, superficial scarring

Longevity of Results

Longer-lasting results due to extended growth factor release

Shorter-lasting results that may require more frequent sessions

Cost Efficiency

More cost-effective over time due to fewer sessions needed

May require more sessions to maintain results

Post-Treatment Downtime

Minimal – typically low irritation and inflammation

Slightly more inflammation or swelling in some cases

questions

Is PRP Vampire Facial available at all branches?
Why would one benefit from the PRP facial treatment?

Normal blood contains only 6% platelets; however, in PRP, the concentration is 94% platelets, which translates to a decisive growth factor “cocktail” containing a variety of growth factors and cytokines. This stimulates cellular tissue regeneration, dramatically accelerating healing.

For this reason, this treatment is highly successful in addressing the signs of ageing, as well as aiding in hair regeneration and even muscle and joint repair.

How long does it take to see results from PRP?

Results from PRP treatments aren't immediate, as the treatment works by stimulating your body's natural healing processes. Most patients notice improvements in skin texture and tone, as well as hair density, within 2 to 4 weeks. Collagen remodelling and hair regrowth continue to improve over the next 3 to 6 months, especially when a whole series of treatments is completed and combined with supportive skincare and supplements.

How many PRP treatments will you need?

We typically recommend a protocol of 3 to 4 initial sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart, to achieve optimal regenerative effects. After the initial course, maintenance sessions every 4 to 6 months help preserve results. The number of treatments can vary based on your individual goals, treatment area, and body's response to the treatment.

Is PRP treatments painful?

Most patients find PRP to be very tolerable. A topical anaesthetic is applied before the procedure to minimise discomfort. You may feel a slight pinching or pressure during injections, especially in sensitive areas like the scalp or under your eyes. Any mild discomfort typically subsides shortly after the procedure.

What skin and hair concerns can PRP treat?

PRP is highly versatile and can treat a wide range of aesthetic concerns, including:

  • Fine lines, wrinkles, and crepey skin
  • Acne scars and post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • Thinning hair and hair loss (androgenic alopecia)
  • Sun-damaged and dull skin
  • Stretch marks and surgical scars

Your Skin Renewal medical doctor will evaluate your unique skin and health history to determine if PRP is the right solution for your goals.

Is there any downtime after PRP?

Downtime is minimal. You may experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site for 24–48 hours. Some patients may notice light bruising, especially in sensitive areas like the eyes or scalp. These effects are temporary and can be easily managed with post-treatment care and calming serums.

Who is a good candidate for PRP therapy?

PRP is suitable for most healthy individuals seeking non-surgical, natural skin and hair rejuvenation. It's ideal for those who prefer to avoid synthetic products and want to improve their skin tone, firmness, and texture by harnessing their body's regenerative ability. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain blood disorders, active infections, or those taking specific medications. A thorough medical consultation is always performed before treatment.

I had an amazing experience at Skin Renewal Century City with Kayla and Dr Michele. I went in for micro-needling with PRP, and from start to finish, the service was outstanding. Kayla was incredibly professional and made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. She explained each step clearly and was gentle yet precise in her approach. Dr Michele was equally fantastic—his expertise and attention to detail gave me complete confidence in the treatment. He answered all my questions thoroughly and ensured I understood what to expect. The procedure itself was seamless, and I’m already noticing positive results. I truly appreciate the care and professionalism of both Kayla and Dr Michele. If you’re looking for top-tier aesthetic treatments, I highly recommend Skin Renewal Century City!

I got a botox treatment at Skin Renewal Cape Quarter. The desk team and the doctor have been so friendly and accommodating. They also give you a numbing treatment as well, which I really appreciate.

I loved the Vampire Facial. I was a little nervous at first, but it really was not painful and the result is amazing. I am now two days post-procedure and my skin is glowing!

I had my first treatment at the Fourways branch last year in October. Whenever the Skin Renewal training team and I decide to introduce any new treatments at Skin Renewal, I am always the first to try the new treatment out to ensure we can deliver results for our patients. I was interested to see if this Vampire Facial could make a difference to the overall texture of my skin. A few weeks after the initial treatment I started receiving numerous compliments about my skin and thus the decision to introduce the DrPRP treatment in the new year was a no-brainer.I jumped at the chance to be the model for the doctor's training of PRP and thus was fortunate enough to receive a second treatment. Three weeks post my second treatment, our training team at Skin Renewal insisted that we take before and after photos to compare the results of the 2 Vampire Facial treatments. We took follow up photos today and we were all amazed at the difference in the texture and clarity of my skin. What really impressed me was the improvement of my necklines and the texture of my chin...really thrilled with the results. What sets the Dr PRP system aside from the other PRP treatments out there is the double centrifuge process which delivers "liquid gold", a super concentrated PRP. At Skin Renewal the PRP treatment includes the face, neck, decollete and hands, so all neglected areas will be covered ... Can't wait to have my third treatment!Dr Maureen Allem, Founder and Medical Director Skin, Body, Health and Sleep Renewal
